Air One In Contact With Berlusconi Aide On Alitalia Bid
Monday May 5th, 2008 / 14h31
ROME (MF-Dow Jones)--Italian carrier Air One SpA is in contact with Bruno Ermolli, the man charged by Italian premier-elect Silvio Berlusconi with finding a buyer for Alitalia SpA (AZA.MI), an Air One board member said Monday. "There have been and there are contacts," with Ermolli, said Air One board member Giovanni Malago on the sidelines of an event in Rome. Air One last year submitted a bid for state-controlled Alitalia, but the Italian government chose to enter exclusive takeover talks with Air France-KLM SA (3112.FR) instead. Talks with the Franco-Dutch carrier collapsed last month, putting Alitalia's future in doubt. Berlusconi, who won parliamentary elections April 13-14 and wants to keep Alitalia in domestic hands, has been urging Italian investors to come up with an offer for the near-bankrupt airline. -By Catia Augelli, MF-Dow Jones, and Gordon Sorlini, Dow Jones Newswires; +39 02 5821-9908; gordon.sorlini@dowjones.com
