Citic Resources In Talks To Sell Stake In Macarthur - Source |

HONG KONG -(Dow Jones)- Citic Resources Holdings Ltd. (1205.HK), a Chinese energy and base-metals producer, is considering selling its 19.99% stake in Australia's Macarthur Coal Ltd. (MCC.AU) "if the price is right," a person familiar with the situation said Wednesday.
The person, who declined to be named, said a potential buyer has approached the company.
"The talks are still going on. If the price is right, Citic is willing to sell it," said the person, without naming the interested party.
Citic could also opt to keep its Macarthur shares and raise its holding in the Australian coal miner by buying the stakes of existing shareholders, the person said.
Macarthur said Wednesday ArcelorMittal (MT), the world's biggest steel maker by output, has taken a 14.9% stake in the company.
"ArcelorMittal has approached Macarthur Coal in respect of a potential transaction," Macarthur added in a statement.
The deal is the latest in a steady stream of foreign takeovers of Australian miners, sparked by surging commodity prices.
Speculation about a takeover of Macarthur has been running high since the miner revealed in April that it had been approached by a third party about a possible transaction.
