(Adds names of the fields.) By Benoit Faucon Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES LONDON -(Dow Jones)- Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB) has registered in an Iraqi tender for oil support contracts for the Missan and Kirkuk fields, a person familiar with the matter said Thursday. Iraq is currently tendering technical support agreements, or TSAs, that will help increase production in the country's largest producing oil fields. Shell is joining Spanish-Argentine firm Repsol YPF (REP), which has filed for preregistration, and the U.K.'s BP PLC (BP), which has already registered. Anglo-Dutch major Shell "filed the forms" to apply for two TSAs - Kirkuk in the north of Iraq and Missan in the South - and is already conducting studies. The person said the Iraqi government had invited the company to compete for those particular fields. The list of fields for which TSAs are being offered could also include Rumeila in the south and East Baghdad in the center, Iraqi oil officials have said. The person added that Shell's discussions with Iraq on conducting a long-term production test at the large Akkas natural gas field in the west of the country had been conducted outside the framework of the TSA selection. The TSAs would be signed under the framework of the country's old hydrocarbon law as its new oil and gas law is still mired in debate. The draft oil and gas law, which will allow foreign companies to invest in the Iraqi oil sector, is still under debate at the Iraqi parliament. Iraq has previously said that TSAs could be the first step before awarding service contracts to these companies to develop oil fields. -By Benoit Faucon, Dow Jones Newswires; +44-20-7842-9266; benoit.faucon@dowjones.com
