NEW YORK (Reuters) - Electronics retailer and takeover target Circuit City Stores Inc <CC.N> posted a wider first-quarter net loss on Thursday as sales fell in the challenging U.S. consumer spending environment, and said it has suspended dividend payments to save cash. The company said its net loss came to $164.8 million, or $1.00 a share, compared with a loss of $54.6 million, or 33 cents a share, a year earlier. Circuit City received a takeover offer from Blockbuster Inc <BBI.N> earlier this year. It said it is still exploring strategic options. (Reporting by Karen Jacobs, editing by Gerald E. McCormick)
