BRUSSELS (AFP)--Georgia's new Prime Minister Grigol Mgaloblishvili on Monday recalled the North Atlantic Treaty Organization promise to accept his country as a member, while admitting there was still debate over the accession process. On the eve of a NATO ministerial meeting which will discuss both Georgia and Ukraine's membership bids, the Georgian leader stressed the 26 members of NATO had agreed, at an April summit, to open the door to Tbilisi, albeit at an unspecified date. "It was more than obvious that, at the Bucharest summit, the political decision was taken that Georgia would become a NATO member state," Mgaloblishvili told reporters during his first visit to the European Commission since he was appointed by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in October. However he said Georgia wasn't necessarily looking to be inducted into NATO's Membership Action Plan, the final stage of the adhesion process for candidate nations. "What Georgia's final aim is, is not to get the MAP but to accelerate its integration and get integrated into NATO," he said. "The mechanism that will be used to facilitate this integration process is still under discussion."
