Non-Profit Grps Threaten To File Shell Resolution On Polar Bear

LONDON -(Dow Jones)- Seizing on the recent U.S. decision to protect the polar bear under the U.S. Endangered Species Act, environmentalists Monday threatened to file a resolution at a future Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB.LN) shareholders meeting if the company moves forward with its plans to drill in Alaska's Arctic. Several non-profit organizations said in a press release they "delivered a letter to the company laying out concerns about drilling" in areas of Alaska where polar bears live. "If Shell proceeds with its plans, the activists will work with shareholders to file a resolution against drilling at the next annual meeting," they said. Shell is due to hold its annual shareholders meeting Tuesday, so any resolution would presumably come next year. The environmental groups include the Sierra Club, Pacific Environment and Friends of Earth.
