MOSCOW (AFP)--Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will challenge U.S. counterpart George W. Bush to act on Russian concerns over U.S. missile defense plans, a top Kremlin adviser was quoted as saying Sunday. The two leaders will meet Monday at the Group of Eight leading industrial nations' summit being held in Toyako, Japan. "We are counting on the meeting in Toyako to create an additional stimulus for the U.S. negotiations to begin to take into account our concerns in a real and not a propagandistic way," Kremlin foreign policy adviser Sergei Prikhodko was quoted as saying by Interfax news agency. During an April meeting with then Russian president Vlaimir Putin, Bush "heard our concerns, recognized them as legitimate and promised to take measures to overcome them," Prikhodko said. "Unfortunately on the executive level his signal, it seems, has faded to nothing," he said. The U.S. has proposed siting radar in the Czech Republic and interceptor missiles in Poland as part of a shield to defend against states it considers a threat, such as Iran and North Korea. Moscow has said it distrusts U.S. motives and that the proposed missile shield threatens Russian security, being located close to Russian borders. It has proposed creating a joint missile shield with Europe and the U.S. Click here to go to Dow Jones NewsPlus, a web front page of today's most important business and market news, analysis and commentary: http://www.djnewsplus.com/al?rnd=zWzWhyv77fAzXNFP%2BpXClA%3D%3D.
