WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- House Republicans elected Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich., Wednesday as the ranking minority member on the powerful tax-writing Ways and Means Committee.
Camp will replace Rep. Jim McCrery, R-La., who is standing down at the end of the year.
The Ways & Means Committee is one of the most important panels for the business community, as it is responsible for rewriting tax policy.
Chaired by Rep. Charles Rangell, D-N.Y., it is one of the most powerful House committees.
There is widespread recognition of a need for a major overhaul of U.S. tax law. Camp would be the point man for House Republicans if such an attempt occurs next year.
