Volkswagen De Mexico To Stop Puebla Plant From Dec 20-Jan 12

MEXICO CITY -(Dow Jones)- German auto maker Volkswagen AG (VLKAY) will extend the year-end closure of its plant in Mexico to Jan. 12. Volkswagen de Mexico said in a statement that the extended vacation, which begins Dec. 20, is in keeping with what the company is doing at most plants worldwide. A spokeswoman said the company expects the Puebla, Mexico, plant to have reached its 2008 production goal of 450,000 cars by then. Last week, the plant surpassed its previous single-year record, set in 2000, of 425,700 cars produced. The spokeswoman said Volkswagen de Mexico plans to release its 2009 outlook in January.
