Novartis Unit Sandoz:Will Be Partner In Generic Plavix Launch

ZURICH -(Dow Jones)- Sandoz, a unit of Swiss drugmaker Novartis AG (NVS), Friday said it will be one of the companies launching a generic version of Plavix, a Sanofi-Aventis SA (SNY) drug. "We can confirm that we're a partner (in the launch)," a Sandoz spokesman said. The statement by Sandoz, a maker of generic drugs, follows announcements by generic drugmakers Ratiopharm and Schweizerhall Holding AG (SWHN.EB) that they will take part in the German launch of a cheaper alternative to anti-clotting medicine clopidogrel, which is sold under the brand name Plavix.
