PARIS -(Dow Jones)- Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines division of Sanofi-Aventis SA (SNY) Monday said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has licensed its new pediatric combination vaccine Pentacel. The vaccine, which is indicated for active immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis and Haemophilus influenzae has been approved for use in infants and children six weeks through four years of age. The Pentacel vaccine is the first and only four-dose diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis (DTaP)-based combination vaccine that includes both poliovirus and Hib antigens, Sanofi said, adding that it could therefore reduce the number of shots by seven. The Pentacel vaccine has been used in Canada for a decade and is licensed in seven other countries. -By Laetitia Bachelot-Fontaine, Dow Jones Newswires; +33 (0)1 40 17 17 40; laetitia.bachelot-fontaine@dowjones.com
