UPDATE: Sanofi Requests Extension Of Zentiva Offer Period
Monday September 15th, 2008 / 9h06
(Adds background, share price details) LONDON -(Dow Jones)- Sanofi-Aventis SA (SNY) has requested to extend the validity period of its EUR1.655 billion offer for Czech generic drugmaker Zentiva N.V. (BAAZEN.PR), according to a document published on its website. The validity period, which expires Sept. 19, may be extended in agreement with the Czech National Bank if additional time is required to meet the offer conditions. Sanofi-Aventis said it expects to publish any extension by this date. Earlier this month, Zentiva reiterated its view that Sanofi-Aventis' CZK1,050-a-share bid undervalues its actual worth, saying that it would consider an offer that better values the company, or maintain its independence as it plans to expand in central and eastern Europe. Sanofi already holds a 24.9% stake in Zentiva. At 0741 GMT Sanofi-Aventis shares were trading down EUR1.4, or 2.8%, at EUR49.15 in a lower Paris market, while Zentiva was trading unchanged at CZK1,040.
