Zentiva 1st Half Net Profit +19% At CZK987.5 Million Vs CZK831.3M Year Ago

By Sean Carney Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES PRAGUE -(Dow Jones)- Czech-based generics drug maker Zentiva NV (BAAZEN.PR) Monday reported an 19% annual rise in first-half net profit, as foreign units began to contribute to the group's profits. Zentiva, which was recently the subject of a takeover battle between its two largest shareholders, said net profit in the six months to end-June totaled CZK987.5 million ($64.3 million), compared with CZK831.3 million a year ago. Last month the company reported its revenue totaled CZK4.50 billion in the second quarter, up 31.6% from CZK3.42 billion a year earlier. Immediately following the first-half earnings release, Zentiva then announced that its net profit in the second quarter was up 16% on the year at CZK363.3 million, compared with CZK312.4 million a year ago. The profit figure is below market expectations for net profit of CZK460 million, according to a Dow Jones Newswires poll of six analysts. At 1001 GMT, Zentiva was trading up 0.6%, on the day at CZK1072 and down 9.7% year-on-year.
