PARIS -(Dow Jones)- French oil major Total SA (TOT) Tuesday confirmed workers at some of its French refineries were on strike but said it was too early to estimate the impact of the strike on output. A Total spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires the company's management hopes to reach a deal with unions over 2008 wages "very soon," that could put an end to the strike. Unions are holding meetings this Tuesday at 1200 GMT to decide over the next course of action, a CGT union representative said. He denied talks with Total's management over 2008 wages had resumed after they broke Friday. Workers at five of the six Total's refineries in France have been on strike since Monday afternoon, the union official said earlier Tuesday. The refineries impacted by the strike are Grandpuits in the Paris region, that normally produces as much as 99,000 barrels a day of refined products; Gonfreville in Normandy, with normal production of 331,000 barrels a day; La Mede in the south of France, with normal production of 158,000 barrels a day; Donges in west of France, with normal production of 230,000 barrels a day and Feyzin, near Lyons, with normal production of 116,000 barrels a day. Total's Flandres refinery in Northern France isn't touched by the strike movement and normally produces 141,000 barrels of refined products a day.
