Angry Steelworkers Mount Violent Protest At ArcelorMittal AGM
The demonstrators breached two rows of security fencing and attempted to break through the front door of the building.
Smoke from exploding fireworks penetrated the assembly room, but the shareholders meeting proceeded as planned.
Police in full riot gear arrested one man and managed to drive the protesters back behind security fencing.
Patrick Vergerio, a union member at the scene from the French Confederation Of Christian Workers, said they were calling on Chief Executive Lakshmi Mittal to honor his promises and keep the steel plants open.
The policies of the company and the international situation made them fear for their livelihoods, he said.
