"In the current environment, ANZ believes it is prudent for banks to maximize the range of funding options available to them, and funding from the parent bank is one of these options," the bank said in a statement.
The group said other mechanisms include ANZ National's recently established securitization program, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's auction facility and New Zealand's Crown Guarantee on funding.
The establishment of the branch is effective immediately, ANZ said.
