Quoted by the local Estado news agency, ANP President Haroldo Lima said the decision to cut the ethanol-gasoline mixture would be made in one or two weeks. The current mixture is 25%, and the minimum ethanol-gas mixture would be 20%, Lima said.
The measure would increase availability of the biofuel and reduce ethanol prices, Lima said. That would counter a recent spike in ethanol prices in several Brazilian states because ethanol is expensive to store.
In seven Brazilian states, the price of sugar cane-based ethanol has rocketed higher than the price of gasoline. Ethanol producers boosted prices to cover losses related to higher-than-normal rainfall.
According to Lima, ethanol prices should come down "in a short time."
