Amid the most negotiated shares were oil giant Petrobras (PBR), with BRL3.35 million, followed by mining mammoth Vale S.A. (VALE) with BRL2.97 million.
Brazil stocks earlier closed 0.18% lower at 50,935 points and moved very light volume worth just BRL1.67 billion.
The thin trading was due to observance of the Independence Day holiday in the United States.
