At the same time, the Nagoya-based utility will sign a long-term contract to buy about 1.44 million metric tons a year of LNG from the project for 25 years starting 2014, Mita said.
Chubu Electric will get delivery of 1.5 million tons of LNG a year from the project, including about 60,000 tons a year based on its 0.4% stake, company spokesman Toshimitsu Shibata said.
Chubu Electric signed a memorandum of understanding with Chevron about the LNG purchase in 2005.
Chevron owns a 50% stake in the project, while Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA) and ExxonMobil Corp. (XOM)each have a 25% stake.
