EU Seeks Views On EDF Plan To Raise Competition In Elec Market
The commission, the European Union's antitrust regulator, had previously said EDF may be abusing its dominant position in France by closing long-term, exclusive deals with large industrial customers that shut out competitors.
EDF has proposed various actions to address these concerns and the commission wants to know what competitors think of them.
EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes said the company's proposals ensure competitors on the French electricity market could compete on an equal footing for the supply of electricity to industrial customers, so that companies in France would enjoy a wider choice of suppliers and more price competition.
Market operators and other interested parties now have an opportunity to give their views on the EDF proposals, she said.
