Genworth Financial Inc. (GNW) announced Sunday it has filed an application with the U.S. Office of Thrift Supervision to become a savings and loan holding company. The company filed the application "with respect to the acquisition of InterBank fsb of Maple Grove, Minnesota." Genworth said it has reached an "agreement in principle" to acquire Interbank FSB, "subject to negotiation of a definite agreement."
Genworth also said it filed an application with the U.S. Treasury's Troubled Asset Relief Program, seeking to participate in the Capital Purchase Program.
