Social Affairs Minister Isaac Herzog told U.S. news channel CNN that Hamas was under "huge pressure" after an Israeli military operation launched in a bid to halt rocket attacks from Gaza.
"The intelligence reports that we've received today in the Israeli cabinet are that the Hamas is looking for a respectable way of finding a way to get out of this situation," he said.
"They are, indeed, under huge pressure," Herzog added.
Shin Beth foreign intelligence service chief Yuval Diskin presented a report to the Israeli cabinet on Sunday laying out the view that Hamas wanted a way out of the war, which has left more than 500 Palestinians dead, Israeli media reported.
Israeli army spokesman Avi Benayahou told public television that "Hamas has come to the conclusion that it has made an enormous strategic error by refusing to extend a ceasefire accord" that ended Dec. 19.
Hamas resumed rocket attacks on Israel after the accord ended, and Israel launched air attacks Dec. 27.
