Jailed Nigerian Militant Refused Treatment By 3 Countries-Lawyer
The refusal is the latest hurdle in an amnesty process kicked off last week.
Speaking to Dow Jones Newswires on Friday, Wilson Ajuwa said attempts to find a country where militant Henry Okah could be treated for a serious kidney ailment have so far been unsuccessful. Egypt, Israel and Germany have all refused, he noted.
Ajuwa said Nigeria had proposed importing the necessary equipment to treat Okah but that the offer was declined because "it could take a year."
Ajuwa also said Okah has yet to be formally notified that he will be covered by the government's amnesty offer, despite public statements from government officials saying he will be covered.
Many commanders in the main militant movement, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, have cited Okah's release as a condition to laying down their weapons.
