Mexico is the world's second-largest silver producer behind Peru, and is also home to one of the world's largest copper producers - Grupo Mexico (GMEXICO.MX).
Grupo Mexico's Cananea mine, Mexico's largest, has been closed by a strike since the end of July 2007, affecting the country's copper production.
A longstanding dispute between the company and leaders of the National Mining and Metals Workers Union has kept the strike from being resolved.
