Calif Regulators Approve PG&E, Edison International Units' Fuel-Cell Projects

- DOW JONES NEWSWIRES California regulators on Thursday gave PG&E Corp.'s (PCG) and Edison International's (EIX) utilities permission to spend about $20 million each to develop fuel-cell power-generating facilities. Pacific Gas & Electric Co. plans to install 3 megawatts of fuel cells at two California State University campuses in the San Francisco Bay area, and Southern California Edison plans to install 3 megawatts of fuel-cell capacity on CSU campuses in southern California. PG&E's fuel cells will use waste heat and water to provide heat for an Olympic-size swimming pool, among other uses, and also reuse excess water for landscape irrigation.
