The fourth missile was fired around noon (0300 GMT Saturday), the military said.
It was reported earlier that North Korea fired two ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan on Saturday morning, the Japanese government said, while the South Korean military confirmed the launch of the third one.
The two missiles launched at around 8 a.m. are believed to be short-range Scud types and "are estimated to have a range of about 500 kilometers," Yonhap News Agency earlier reported, quoting a South Korean government official.
At around 10:45 a.m., Pyongyang launched the third missile, according to the South Korean military.
