Ethics rules released by the Obama team Tuesday prohibit lobbyists from contributing financially to the president-elect's transition. The rules also say lobbyists are not allowed to engage in any lobbying while working with the transition. If a person has lobbied in the last year, they can't work for the transition in any policy areas on which they lobbied.
The rules are a reflection of Obama's campaign pledge to arrest the corrupting influence of lobbyists on the government.
"Barack Obama has pledged to change the way Washington works and curb the influence of lobbyists," transition co-chair John Podesta told reporters at a briefing Tuesday.
The rules also state that if someone becomes a lobbyist after working on the Obama transition, they are prohibited from lobbying the administration for 12 months on matters on which they worked.
