Several people were slightly hurt in the incident which happened after a small number of protesters refused to be searched at a police checkpoint, the report said.
Several thousand people chanting "we will not pay for the crisis" took part in the demonstration organized by Turkey's main labor unions.
Since October, the Turkish currency has lost about 40% against the dollar, while the Istanbul stock exchange has dropped 60% since the start of the year.
The Central Bank announced a drop of 5.5% in industrial production for September, the biggest fall since 2002.
