The gunmen fired grenade-launchers at a police station in the Chechen capital of Grozny, police told Itar-Tass. The two injured officers were hospitalized.
Sustained fighting ended years ago, but isolated attacks on Russian federal troops and police still occur frequently in Chechnya and several other neighboring areas in Russia's volatile north Caucasus region.
