Enrique Salem, who is now Symantec's chief operating officer, was named Monday as the replacement for CEO John Thompson, who said he plans to retire after 10 years at the helm of the Cupertino, Calif., software company.
Salem said he sees opportunities for growth in Symantec's two core markets, security software and storage, that aren't being realized.
"These are huge markets that ought to be able to deliver better growth for this company," he said.
