Syria, Sudan Seek End To "Barbaric Gaza Massacres" - Report
The two discussed "Arab efforts to stop the barbaric massacres against the Palestinian people, the withdrawal of Israeli occupying forces from Gaza, lifting the blockade and opening crossing points" into Gaza, SANA said.
Arab heads of state are to hold a special summit on the Gaza crisis alongside a planned economic summit in Kuwait on Jan. 19-20, the Kuwaiti daily An-Nahar reported Saturday.
The Arab League, which is based in Cairo, and Arab foreign ministers have accepted the Kuwaiti proposal, the report says.
Arab foreign ministers last week sent an Arab delegation to the U.N. Security Council to demand a ceasefire.
The Council adopted a resolution calling for a lasting ceasefire, but it has been ignored by both Israel and the Hamas Islamist movement, which controls the Gaza Strip.
More than 900 Palestinians have died and 3,950 have been wounded since Israel launched an offensive to halt Hamas rocket attacks on the Jewish state on Dec. 27.
