Spokesman Mark Watts told Dow Jones Newswires that APPT was not for sale and that Auckland-based Telecom was not aware of any offer from Hong Kong-based Pacnet. Earlier Reuters, quoting a source close to Pacnet, said the company would be offering US$420 million for AAPT, Australia's number three phone company.
"We are absolutely committed to AAPT. It is not on the block," Watts said.
Pacnet would not comment on the Reuters report although a Pacnet source indicated to Dow Jones Newswires there was some foundation to the possibility of a bid for APPT.
