UPDATE: US President Obama Heads To Ghana After G8 Summit
ROME (AFP)--U.S. President Barack Obama headed Friday for Ghana after attending the three-day Group of Eight summit in Italy and meeting with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican.
Obama was embarking on his first visit to sub-Saharan Africa as president after playing a key role in persuading about 30 countries to bankroll a $20 billion fund aimed at helping smallholder farmers increase crop yields.
The U.S. leader had a warm first meeting with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican Friday during which they discussed the sensitive issue of bioethics.
