U.S. President George W. Bush, Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso and South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak held a three-way meeting in Peru on the sidelines of an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
"The three leaders agreed that the North Korean nuclear issue is our common topic that requires close cooperation," said a Japanese government official who attended the meeting.
"The three leaders agreed on the need for a document on the framework for practical verification" of North Korea's denuclearization, the official said on customary condition of anonymity.
